Stellenbosch Wine Weekend, Aimèe’s travel tip

Stellenbosch Wine Weekend.

Getting to Stellenbosch from Cape Town for our wine farm weekend was a breeze. We left Cape Town midmorning on Saturday after a breakfast at the V&A Waterfront bakery, Knead and arrived in Stellenbosch for our Stellenbosch Wine Weekend well before check-in time. We decided to explore one of the oldest wine farms in the area, Blaauwklippen. Luckily enough we were able to do a biltong and wine tasting, which is recommended to be booked beforehand. It was a delicious experience for both the local and international palate. A good start of our Stellenbosch wine weekend.

Wine Estate Weekend at Webersberg

What a beautiful setting. The old Cape Dutch houses have been magnificently decorated and modernised. For a seemingly small wine estate, this farm has a lot to offer. One of the managers took us around to show us the rooms and help us get settled in.

We had a relaxing lunch and wine tasting. They specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and both a blush and brut MCC. The staff are all friendly and have great antidotes to share about the farm and the area.

Overlooks the whole wine valley

A short drive to the top of the mountain is the beautiful Tuscan inspired wine farm Uva Mira. Named after a constellation of stars, once you taste the wine you will understand why. It is a true gem of a wine estate. The tasting room overlooks the whole valley which is even beautiful on a misty day. We sat inside next to a roaring fire and experienced the rare occurrence of almost having the place to ourselves. Our sommelier was incredible, she lived in the valley her whole life and her love for the area and the wine was clear.

A bit of R&R on our Stellenbosch Wine Weekend.

After three wine tasting, we were exhausted. We made our way back to the comfort of the room at Webersberg for a well-deserved rest. As determined as we were to tick off another wine estate our bodies needed a good meal and even better nights sleep. Our sommeliers recommended a local restaurant for some comfort food. Then back to the room for one of the best nights sleep I have ever had.

Breakfast at Webersberg

The breakfast at Webersberg was delicious with a wide variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, bread and pastries. Accompanied by fresh juice and coffee. We thought we were in heaven, and then it got better with a choice of hot breakfasts, anything from french toast to a full English. What a way to end our stay.

Famous wine estates in Stellenbosch

While packing our bags, after our Stellenbosch Wine Weekend, we wished the weekend could last a little longer. With so many world famous wine estates in Stellenbosch, we could not leave without a visit to the estate famous for being the wine of choice at Mandela’s coronation. Rust en Vrede is a beautiful wine estate in Hidden Valley. The wine tasting takes place under the trees overlooking the vineyards. What luck the sun came out for our visit. The wine was delicious and estate oozes elegance and prestige.

Back at the V&A Waterfront

We had a wonderful weekend in Stellenbosch and were not looking forward to Monday. Although we were not that hungry when we got back to Cape Town we decided to find a place to have a light meal. We happened upon Willoughby’s, with a long queue of people waiting to be seated we were convinced it would be a good choice. While waiting we were offered a taster of wine, it was such a classy touch.

The menu is every fish lovers dream, it has such a wide variety from sushi to classic fish and chips. We decided to share some sushi and of course a bottle of wine. I have heard many good things about the Chardonnay in Hermanus, so we chose a bottle of Southern Right Chardonnay to accompany our Salmon Grenades. Our minds were blown. The wine was excellent and we have decided to plan a trip to Hermanus in the future. The Grenades were incredible, this is a must. We decided that every time we come to Cape Town we will treat ourselves to this delicious experience.

I highly recommend a Stellenbosch Wine Weekend.
