Best time to go to South Africa

South Africa offers sun and heat all year round. December and January are high summer and very warm and sunny. November and February are affordable months to go to South Africa. You then go just before or just after the high season, which means that you can get better prices and at the same time a warm and sunny weather. November and February are not the funniest months in Sweden either. So you then hit two flies in a bang.

Flight time South Africa

At the moment there are no direct flights to South Africa from Sweden, you need to change in eg London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dubai or Doha. Total flight time with 1 stop is from 14.5 hours, London – Johannesburg takes just over 10 hours.

What is the time in South Africa

South Africa and Sweden are in the same time zone. During the Swedish winter season it is 1 hour between us. This means that when you land in South Africa you do not suffer from jet lag.

Need adapter

South Africa uses a different system which means that you need an adapter. They have three spikes instead of two. But most hotels and houses in South Africa already have adapters for machines from Europe, as many machines are imported. If you notice that you need an adapter, it is cheaper to buy an adapter in South Africa than in Sweden.

Malaria in South Africa

Malaria can occur In South Africa in some areas such as Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Northeast Kwazulu / Natal and Kruger Park. It is always good to ask at the hotel if it is malaria in the area that you are in or are going to visit.

To protect yourself from mosquito bites, you can use mosquito spray and have a fan / air condition in the room you sleep in.

South Africa Visa

As a Swedish citizen, no Visa is usually needed to enter South Africa. Upon entry you will receive a tourist visa that is valid for 90 days.

Your passport must be valid at least 30 days after your departure from South Africa and have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps

Traveling with children to South Africa

As of June 1, 2015, new rules apply for travel with children to and from South Africa. Under the new law, all minors (children under the age of 18) will have to present, in addition to the passport, an Unabridged Birth Certificate on entry and exit from South Africa. The personal certificate must be written in English.
